How did Abraham Lincoln get his position of commander in chief in the civil war? What did he do about getting people to agree on his side in the civil war?

Hello,

Abraham ran against a very divided Democratic Party.

He didn't necessarily get people to agree with his side, he had the unions support which was anti-slavery. In addition, he also had the support of everyone  but the confederate states, including the slaves which also fought for their freedom.
