The Rite of penance remind us of the sacraments connection to baptism in the fact that the cross symbol makes us remember the original sacrament of forgiveness, where God loved us so much that he came to this earth in human-form and died on the cross to forgive our sins so that humans wouldn’t have to pay the price of eternal death.
