The significance of Hernandez vs. Texas was the fact that the 14th amendment was upheld for people in the United States of all nationalities. The main focus was equal treatment of Mexican-Americans and the ruling lead to equal treatment for all. This was a huge step in America's history of eliminating racism by upholding the constitution for all nationalities.
