You find something you can divide the top and bottom number by. You want to get the largest number which in this case is 6. You divide 6 by 6 and 18 by 6 leaving you with 1/3, however if you didn't see that you could also divide both numbers by 3, then continue to simplify.

How to simplify 6/18:

6/18 = 3/9 = 1/3

I divided 6/18 by 2 (easy way) to get 3/9.
Then I divided 3/9 by 3 to get 1/3.

Another way to do this is:
6/18

18/6 = 3

6/18 = 1/3

6/18 / 3 = 1/3
