34 feet + 18 feet = 52 feet
The oak tree is 52 feet tall.

 It started at 34 and grew 18, so all you have to do is add both together. If you started with a pencil and your classmate gave you another one you would have 2 because 1+1=2. So 34+18=52 feet.
