The twelve-tone technique, also known as 12-tone serialism, is a technique developed by Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg. It is a system of music theory used to organize and compose atonal, or non-harmonic compositions. Atonal compositions using the 12-tone technique are generally known as "serialist" compositions.
