The answer is  y = -2/3
Steps:
Multiply the numbers: 2 x 4 = 8
8 - 6y = 12
Subtract 8 from both sides
8 - 6y - 8 = 12 - 8
Simplify:
-6y = 4
Divide both sides:
[tex]\frac{-6y}{-6}=\frac{4}{-6}[/tex]
Simplify:
[tex]y=-\frac{2}{3} [/tex]
