We have

2x³+3x²+2x-4-(x³-2x²-x-1). Using the distributive property, we get 
2x³+3x²+2x-4-x³+2x²+x+1
Adding and subtracting like terms (e.g. x³+3x³=4x³), we get 
x³+5x²+3x+3
