This is because, a 10 ml graduated cylinder will have markings for every 1 ml, which means each division is 0.1; this marking will allow you to take your reading to three significant figures [such as 5.84ml] while the 50 ml graduated cylinder will only have markings for every 1 ml, which means your measurements can only be recorded to 2 significant figures [such as 49 ml]
