First, you want to do $44.00 - $5.00 so you can find the total of two shirts excluding the hat. The total of two shirts is $39.00. To find how much it is for one shirt you have to do $39.00 divided by 2 which equals $19.50

So, the answer is $19.50 for each shirt.
