During Augusto Pinochet's rule in Chile in the 1970's, people had a very little political freedom. He wanted to clear leftism in Chile, and arrested and tortured thousands of people. 
There was also a decrease in the inflation and increase in the economy of Chile, during his rule. 
He did not permit any political opposition.
