What would have to occur to stop earth’s plate movement?

to stop the movement of the plates the inner core of the planet would have to loose lots of heat so it turns solid, then the plates would stop moving.However,if this happened we would loose the magnetic shield generated by the liquid metal near the core of the planet which protects us from radiation which is given of by the sun.
