Why is a lawmakers voting record important?

A law maker's voting record is important for the purpose of trace-ability. This also keeps track of his record during his time in congress. The record can be a basis of his credibility when passing laws to congress. This will reflect which programs he's supporting and may predict which he will support in the future.
