NaCI (sodium chloride) has a high melting point because of the strong electrostatic attraction between its positive and negative ions.

Due to the strong attraction between the positive charge of the sodium and the negative charge of the chlorine NaCl has a strong ionic
bond. This strong bond requires more heat to break apart than normal bonds.
