California is apart of the US as a free state; the fugitive slave laws, which require slaves to be returned to their "owners," were put into action; New Mexico and Utah decide for themselves if slavery is legal there; Texas gives up the Rio Grande border for 10 million; and Congress abolishes the sale of slaves (not slavery) in D.C.
