It would, just not at that time period. With modern tech it would be impossible for modern scientists to not figure out there was tectonic plates. This case is the same with many other scientific discoveries. If gravity or the theory of evolution wasn’t discovered by Newton and Darwin, someone else would have discovered it later. Depending on how much later is up to your imagination.
