If there were no limits on our civil liberties, then Americans could interpret laws in ways to benefit themselves. For example, all Americans have the right to bear arms, but a person can be sentenced to jail time for carrying a gun into a school even if they had no intent on using it in harmful ways. This is because there are limitations in place to ensure the safety of others.
