The perimeter of the rectangle is 88
⇒ P = (L + W) × 2 = 88
⇒ L + W = 88/2 = 44 (1)

The length is five more than twice width
⇒ L = 5 + 2W (2)

Move (1) into (2) we have:
⇒ 5 + 2W + W = 44
⇒ 5 + 3W = 44
⇒ 3W = 44 - 5 = 39
⇒ W = 39/3 = 13
⇒ L = 5 + 2W = 5 + 2 × 13 = 5 + 26 = 31

Answer: W = 13 and L = 31

Now

  • 2(L+B)=88
  • 2(x+2x+5)=88
  • 3x+5=44
  • 3x=39
  • x=13

Length=2(13)+5=26+5=31
