The United States gained control of Hawaii through resident American
businessmen overthrowing the then monarch.
Queen Lili'uokalani was the monarch of Hawaii which became an
independent republic from 194-1898 after she was overthrown by party of
American businessmen.
Benjamin Harrison who was the then U.S president submitted a treaty to
annex the Hawaiian islands to the U.S. Senate for approval which was
done. Hawaii then later became a part of the U.S. state in 1959.
