what is the solution to the following equation x+y=6 x-y=2

x+y = 6
x-y = 2

Add both equations, 
2x = 8
x = 4

Substitute it in equation 1, 
4+y = 6
y = 6-4 = 2

In short, x = 4 & y = 2
