Hydrogen chloride - diluted solution. Sulfur dioxide ( SO 2) reacts with chlorine gas (Cl 2) in the presence of moisture to give HCl and H 2 SO 4. ... H 2 SO 4 and HCl are strong acids in aqueous solutions. If more HCl is added to the solution, then carbon dioxide gas, sodium chloride and water are produced.
