1) Add 5x and 3x.

Now you have 8x = 5x + 15/2

2) Subtract 5x from the right side of the equation.

(You also do this to the left side)

Now you have 3x = 15/2

3) Now we want the value of x not 2 or 3x, so we will need to divide 3x by 3 to get the value of x.

3x/3 = 15/2 /2 (If the fraction divided by 3 looks confusing you can convert it into a decimal)

So you would have 3x/3 = 7.5/2

3x/3 = x

7.5/3 = 2.5

x = 2.5
