C. They believed their sun god needed human blood, which made them always fight in wars so they could get prisoners of war to sacrifice.

Explanation:

They did sacrifice a lot during those times including their own warriors, however the only ones sacrificed to the gods were toughest and strongest amongst them leaving only the weak to remain. It caused a lot of inbreeding and weak warriors to be born.
