Here are the three reasons why Reconstruction failed to live up to its potential:
1. The intervention of the Supreme Court.
2. The rejection of the measures used to ensure equality of human rights by the Southern Whites.
3. The manipulation of the Bankers of the markets, withholding funds which caused food prices to skyrocket.
