the plane has searched 12,950 hectares. the ratio between hectares to square miles is: 1 hectare is 2.471 acres

we know that

one square mile is equal to [tex] 258.999\ hectares [/tex]

so

by proportion

[tex] \frac{258.999}{1} \frac{hectares}{square\ miles} =\frac{x}{50} \frac{hectares}{square\ miles}\\\\ x=50*258.999= 12,949.95\ hectares[/tex]

therefore

the answer is

[tex] 12,950\ hectares [/tex]
