Why do we have hormones? and why do they only act up during puberty?

Our hormones keep our bodies in balance so we can have stability within our bodies. Actually, they are acting from the time you were born. In the first few weeks of a male's life his testosterone levels increase, although this is often questioned because of the affects it has on human behavior.
