Newton’s third law is, if an object applies a force, they will experience an opposite but equal in magnitude force in return. So now, think about how that helps runners in track events. If they apply a 10N force, they will experience a -10N force. Same magnitude but different signs. This will be like you pushing a block, but instead the block is pushing you.
