How can I explain the place value relationship when the same two digits are next to each other

You could use a place value chart.... 222 has 3 digits that are the same but they have different values. The 2 on the farther right represents 2 ones. The 2 in the middle represents 2 tens. The 2 at the far left represents 2 hundreds.
