In The Odyssey - Amphimedon, what motivates Odysseus to dress as a beggar?

Odysseus dressed up as a beggar in order to sneak into the house. In Greek culture you had to let the homeless in your house and feed them because they belived that sometimes the Gods dressed as beggar to test you to see if you would let them in. He wanted to go inside to kill the suitor and get his house back.
