You can make a solution with x grams of sugar and y grams of water mixing them, and the mass of the solution will be M = (x + y).

And the percentage of sugar in the solution is equal to

(x/M)*100% = 50%.

(x/(M)) = 50%/100% = 0.5

M = x/0.5

Then, if you have x grams of sugar, you can make a solution of mass M = x/0.5
