He must not since his statue is being taken down. Let’s just say he was respected at one point probably due to fear but when Lincoln came along, people hated him I believe since he was from the south and the south loved to keep their slaves and severely punished them if they tried to escape or messed up something. I am not 100% percent certain that’s just what I think. I don’t think it is justified since he kept slaves as prisoners and physically punished them and treated them as animals. My personal opinion ♀️
