First we move 6y to the other side. To do this, you subtract 6y on both sides

C - 6y = 8.5x + 6y - 6y

C - 6y = 8.5x

No divide both sides by 8.5 to isolate x

[tex] \frac{C-6y}{8.5} = \frac{8.5}{8.5} x =\frac{C-6y}{8.5} =x[/tex]

C = 8.5x + 6y

8.5x + 6y = C

8.5x = C - 6y

x = (C - 6y)/8.5
