The real definition of tyranny is an arbitrary and cruel use of control and power, especially by a government. However, the quote "Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry" has always been linked to Thomas Jefferson. Although there have been no evidence to show that these words were certainly the words of Thomas Jefferson.
