We speak of mutations as changes in the DNA chain, in the case of deletions and insertions they are called molecular mutations (point or genetic). Taking into account the deletions, one or more nitrogenous bases are removed from a DNA chain, losing a fragment of it, thereby altering the polypeptide chain in formation. This may cause a shift in the reading frame.
