I'll list some out, just going from my common knowledge.

Differences:

  1. A poem is a creative work, while an essay is normally informative.
  2. Poems can be written in verses/stanzas, while essays cannot.
  3. Poems are not normally written in MLA, Chicago, or APA format.

Similarities:

  1. They are both written works
  2. Both of them strive to convey a certain idea.
