Let x = 6 = 2y so
3(6 - 2y) + 14y = 8 so
18 - 6y + 14y = 8 so
8y = -10 and
[tex]y = \frac{ - 10}{8} = - \frac{5}{4} \\ \\ since \: x = 6 - 2y \\ 6 - 2( \frac{ - 5}{4}) = x \: so \\ x = 6 + \frac{10}{4} = \frac{24}{4} + \frac{10}{4} = \frac{34}{4} = \frac{17}{2} [/tex]
