Haploid cells have half a set of chromosomes (in humans, this is 23). Diploid cells have a full set of chromosomes (in humans, this is 46). Haploid cells are generally used in reproduction, as they are sperm and egg cells, and are known as gametes. Haploid cells are formed through meiosis, while diploid cells are formed through mitosis.
