Why can't donkeys procreate?

Donkeys can not procreate because they are sterile. Sterile means that they can not produce sperm or egg cells. They have an odd amount of chromosomes which does not match up quite correctly. So as far as donkeys are made it is possible to make a donkey, but a donkey cannot procreat sadly.
