Essentially, the principle of checks and balances come in with the government. The role of checks and balances is to ensure that no single branch becomes to strong and unstoppable. The easiest example is the government itself. Shown in the picture attached (credit to Whomever created it), It shows that each portion of government is assigned a certain role to ensure no branch has more power over the others.
