9.31 * 10^3  = x * 10^5    where x is the required value.

x = (9.31 * 10^3) / 10^5

= 9.31 * 10^-2   answer

9.31 • 10^3 = x • 10^5

5 is 2 more than 3, so move the decimal point over 2 places to the left.

Once you do this, you get 0.0931

0.0931 times 10 to the 5th power is equivalent to 9.31 times 10 to the 3rd power
