First, we must find what x is when y = 1. To do this, we have to simplify using the GCF (greatest common factor) of 35 and 5

In this case, the GCF is 5, so now we divide by 5.      35 ÷ 5 = 7 and 5 ÷ 5 = 1

So x = 7 when y = 1

And now, since we know the ratio and 1 • 6 = 6, we can multiply both values by 6 to find what x is when y = 6

7 • 6 = 42 and 1 • 6 = 6, so when y = 6, x = 42
